Blue Book

China’s Media Industry Sustainable Development · ESG Blue Book

It is the nation’s first blue book dedicated to sustainable development and ESG research in the media industry, jointly launched by the National Governance Institute of Communication University of China, the Centre for Business Sustainability at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Media One Research.

In the “China Media Sustainable Development · ESG Blue Book (2024),” for the first time from the perspective of the media industry, the origins of the global sustainable development and ESG paradigm are systematically traced, revealing how these concepts have converged with China’s media sector to give rise to the industry‑specific notion of “Media Sustainable Development · ESG.” Building on this framework, the VPI model is integrated to develop an evaluation methodology for both media companies and their content. This approach assesses the current state of China’s media industry across both corporate and creative dimensions, supported by case studies that examine the concrete ESG‑related practices of six leading media firms and ten outstanding media works.

In the future, the China Media Sustainability & ESG Blue Book series will build on the annual industry survey conducted for the China Media Sustainability & ESG Rankings to provide ongoing sector monitoring, thereby documenting the sustainable development and ESG transformation of China’s media industry.
